YouTube - Ghost Stalkers

After Nick Groff left Ghost Adventures, he launched Paranormal Lockdown and also served as an executive producer for another paranormal television series, Ghost Stalkers. This series only lasted for one season (end of 2914) and has six episodes, each devoted to one (supposedly) haunted location. Each episode lasts about 45 minutes.

Ghost Stalkers features two hosts, actor Chad Lindberg and author John E. L. Tenney. Both have a lot in common: not only do they believe in the paranormal, but they both also experienced an NDE (Near Death Experience). Because of this, they believe that haunted locations contain a portal (to hell), where the dead can cross over from one world to another. And it's their mission to find this portal in the locations they investigate in each of the six episodes. For this, they use a device, called a wormhole detector, built to discover gateways that connect different realities with each other.

The two men have different personalities though and this is exactly what makes this series entertaining to watch! John is calm and composed, whereas Chad is of a nervous disposition and is easily startled. This is especially clear when they each spend one night in a haunted location: John stays as calm as a cucumber, whereas Chad screams like a little girl with the smallest paranormal occurrence. The most frightening episode is without any doubt the one that takes place in Holmesburg Prison where quite surprisingly John - and not Chad - ends up with a severe panic attack.

To be honest, I don't believe in this wormhole detector or these portals to hell. Moreover, it remains a mystery throughout the six episodes of how the detector actually works! It all seems like an excuse to do some ghost hunting in spooky locations. And again, it is really entertaining and fun to see how both men react so differently when they each investigate a location during one night. In that light, this series doesn't differ that much from Ghost Adventures.

Maybe this is the reason why Ghost Stalkers lasted only one season; maybe viewers saw it as a clone of Ghost Adventures, which until now is still the most popular paranormal television series in America. I, on the other hand, was actually disappointed that Ghost Stalkers ended after only one season. I really liked the two hosts - who treat each other with a lot of respect, by the way - and they did investigate lesser-known haunted locations.

Right now it is damn hard to find complete episodes of Ghost Stalkers on YouTube. There is however always a coming and going of paranormal television series and one day, you might find the 6 episodes again on YouTube. There are lots of interesting fragments, however, usually the best bits of each episode.

As you might have seen, I have been absent for one month due to illness. During that time I discovered a lot of interesting stuff on YouTube - such as (short) horror movies, paranormal series and the like - which I will be sharing with you very soon!

YouTube - Ghost Adventures

I actually have no idea how I discovered Ghost Adventures on YouTube. Probably I looked for videos with ghosts or something paranormal in them and that is how I found them. And I have been a big fan since then ever since... It all started in 2004 with an independent film with the same title, shot like a documentary. In it a team of 3 men, Zak Bagans, Nick Groff and Aaron Goodwin, research 3 places that are supposed to be haunted. And it all looked creepy, fascinating and adventurous at the same time. The three men seemed to know what they were doing and exuded passion. Fast forward to 2008 when Ghost Adventures resurfaced as a series on the Travel Channel. It quickly became one of the most popular paranormal series on American tv. Each program follows the same procedure: arrival at the supposedly haunted location, accounts by eye-witnesses and historical information. This takes about 20 minutes after which the investigation itself starts; the three men are locked up at the loca...

Fresa Y Chocolate (1993)

It's the end of August and slowly but surely, Oscar season is heating up. Right now, a lot of countries are selecting the movie that will represent them for the Oscar of foreign language film. 16 countries - and counting - have done this so far. Flashback to 1993, when Cuba chose its most successful movie ever... In an ice salon, somewhere in Cuba, two men meet. One is David, a student in political science, in favour of the Cuban revolution, who has just been dumped. The other is a flamboyant gay photographer, Diego, who opposes the revolution and is clearly smitten with the student. From the beginning, it is clear that these two men are each others' opposites and not just on a political level. The movie follows the budding of the unlikely close friendship between the two men through a series of conversations. Diego can not help but fall with the gorgeous student and David gradually comes to a better understanding of Diego's political choice. Enter Diego's lovel...

We Summoned A Demon/The Toothbrush/Salvatore

If you are into short horror movies, then YouTube is a paradise! Don't know where to start or feeling overwhelmed? Then let me recommend these three channels: Omeleto Alter Screamfast (by far the best one) These are some of the gems that I found during my explorations of the last month. We Summoned A Demon \ By far my big favourite of the moment! Two young men try to summon a demon in order to look cool for the girls. But when something goes wrong during the ritual, the two men get a lot more than they had bargained for... This is not a typical horror movie; the movie relies less on jump scares, but more on a creepy atmosphere and a healthy dose of humour. It's all in the details: the small record player that is part of the ritual, the way they try to exert their power over the demon by guessing its name and so on. Chris McInroy is the award-winning director of this gem. I am still exploring his channel and when I find anything else interestin...
